Background
The United States
Historical Society is a private non-profit educational organization
dedicated to fostering increased awareness and appreciation of America's
culture and history through the publication of books, sponsorship
of projects, and the artful reproduction of objects that have interesting
historical significance, and through this process to assist cooperating
museums, historic homes and other organizations.
The symbol
of the Society is the Double Eagle. One eagle looks proudly to
the past, the other confidently to the future.
The late
Pulitzer-prize winning historian,Virginius Dabney, was founding
chairman of the Society's Advisory Board.
